Runway 3.0’s “Technology: Progression/Obsession” presented by Buffalo State College Fashion Technology Program pulled in a packed house to the Pierce Arrow Bldg. on Saturday, May 1st.

The event featured fashions by alumni designers Carol Ann Rice Rafferty, David Brinson Shantell Reid; WEARABLE ART fashion by Stephanie Abelson, Basia Poletowski, Diane Meyer, Jackie Hopper; STUDENT DESIGNS by Annisha Smith, Tony Bruce, Melissa Stoll, Brenda Hamilton, Jaida Van Putten, Dridget Demeis & Katie Gariepy, Brittany Learn, Emily Tolnay-collection, Tinh V. Nguyen-collection, Melissa Marchand, Basia Poletowski-collection; SENIOR COLLECTIONS by Diane Meyer, Tess  Hinterbichler, Anthony Scaparo, Lyudmila Kennedy, Brittany Chonka; LOCAL DESIGNERS Holly Jue, Aella, Morgen and ADAM LIPPES.

Rafferty’s collection Ultra Feminine Warrior was among those featured in the alumna segment of  Runway 3.0 along with collections from graduating seniors in Buffalo State College’s Fashion Technology Program

Three SDA Members Part of Kenan Center Exhibition “Extraordinary Forms: 40 Years of Craft Media”

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of 100 American Craftsmen (June 4-6), the Kenan Center’s annual juried show of craft art, a special exhibit has been organized that will feature the work of 23 established Western New York craft artisans who served as past jurors of the show. The exhibit will open at the Kenan Center House Gallery, 433 Locust Street, Lockport, with a free public reception Sunday, May 16 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and will run through July 11. Work featured will include metal, fiber, wood, clay, and mixed media.

SDA artists included are Jozef Bajus,  Jappie King Black and  Barbara Murak.

Extraordinary Forms II will be open to the public during 100 American Craftsmen, except for Friday, June 4th. Dates and times will be Saturday, June 5th, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 6th, Noon to 4:00 p.m.

Sandra Sider to be Panelist at Dorsky Gallery 

Sandra Sider, SAQA Vice President, is participating in a panel titled “Quilts Extended: Structure as Vocabulary” on May 16 from 3-4:30 at the Dorsky Gallery in Long Island City for the exhibition ASSEMBLING NARRATIVES: QUILTING IMPULSES IN CONTEMPORARY ART.  The public is cordially invited to attend.

Jozef Bajus: Made in New York

“Summer Reading 4 ” by Jozef Bajus

“Made in New York” at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center, Auburn, NY, March 27 – May 16, is an annual juried exhibition. This year it is featuring 73 contemporary works of art by 58 New York State artists, including “Summer Reading 2 & 4” by Jozef Bajus, assistant professor, textiles , at Buffalo State College.

Betty’s Jacquard weaving Red: Five won Third Place in the 2010 Kreft Juried Exhibition, Creative Adaptation in the Visual Arts, which opened February 16 at the Kreft Center for the Arts, Concordia University Ann Arbor, and was on view through March 28.

Stack: Top was in the 33^rd Annual National Juried Art Exhibition Small Works, at Harper College, Palatine, IL,  March 29 - April 22.

Openings for Summer Classes in Canandaigua

Michele Wipplinger: August 18-24

Class 1: August 18-20, Barsalan – Making mudcloth with tannins, mud dyes, ochres and extracts

Class 2: August 22-24, Dyeing as if the Earth Mattered – Dyeing 16 skeins in one pot and adding to the pot to get 16 different colors. Each student goes home with 6-8 groups of 16 small skeins in harmonious color ways suitable for knitting, weaving and crochet projects.
