"Lotus Shoe: Grandmother Chen" by Joan Pao.SDA member Joan Pao's "Lotus Shoe:Grandmother Chen" will be part of the "Perfect Fit: Shoes Tell Stories" exhibit at Fuller Craft Museum, 455 Oak Street, Brockton, MA, June 6,2009 - January 3, 2010. Opening reception Sunday, June 14, 2009, 2-5 PM.
Joan constructed this shoe in memory of her paternal grandmother. She also made a "Lotus Shoe: Grandmother Wong" for her maternal grandmother as well. Both grandmothers had their feet bound. To recreate the shoes they wore, Joan used polyester curtain fabric with straight pins.
Larry Schulte's exhibit of woven painted paper at the Lobby Gallery of 499 Park Avenue, NYC, has been extended through June 30, 2009.
