Archie Brennan & Susan Martin Maffei are internationally-known tapestry artists who have been working in their chosen medium for a combination of more that 85 years. They have exhibited and taught in Museums, Universities, Galleries and Art Centers around the World and have work in both public and private collections. The spacious GAGA Arts Center galleries allow for the presentation of a large gathering of their more recent works.
Susan’s work focuses on the narrative of everyday life and personal events. Influenced by ancient & historical tapestry forms, her exhibit is an exploration of scrolls, storyboards, murals & miniatures.
Over many decades and some hundreds of woven tapestries, Archie has sought to identify and extend this ancient medium via a range of graphic pictorial themes presented in this exhibit.

MARK is the New York Foundation for the Arts'(NYFA) statewide six-month program for visual artists who want a unique opportunity for individualized focus on the professional side of their creative practice. MARK is designed to address the concerns of artists living outside of New York City while providing them with a new network statewide. Participating artists can expect MARK to spark goals and help to define concrete steps while providing individual and group feedback on how to better present yourself.

From October 19 to December 1, Berenice will be exhibiting her work at the First Unitarian Society of Westchester, 25 Old Jackson Avenue, Hastings-on- Hudson, New York. Berenice notes, “For the past few years my main thrust has been silk paintings of the Latino and Latina day laborers in the New York area. This exhibit features silk paintings and prints from this series, including a scroll using new technology. Additionally there will be a group if silk paintings of various subject matter.”

Jeanne Beck
A profile of Jeanne Beck’s work has been published on-line in The Textile Blog.

Jeanne’s piece, “Etruscan Relic” is touring Australian galleries for two years in an invitational exhibition called “Art Cloth: Engaging New Visions”, curated by Marie Therese Wisnioswki. The exhibition was at Redcliffe City Art Gallery in Queensland, Australia, August 11 –28, as part of the gallery's 10 year celebration.

If you have a chance to see one of Louise Bourgeois last pieces, "Do
Not Abandon Me" at Carolina Nitsch, you will not be disappointed.
The project was a collaboration between artists Louise Bourgeois and
Tracey Emin. The show opened Sept 9th and runs through Nov 13th 2010.
The collaboration was an interesting process. Louise painted images of
male and female figures, those images were reproduced on cloth, using
archival dyes by Dyenamix and then sent to Tracey Emin for
manipulation. After a much intimidating pause, Tracey began writing text, doing monoprints and drawing on top of Louise’s figures.
The results are cohesive, leaving the viewer to wonder which artist did
which marks. Those manipulated works were then printed back onto cloth
by Dyenamix in the full edition of 18 sets and 6 artists proofs.
It was an honor and a privilege to be part of such an important piece.
I am humbled by the experience for producing such powerful work.
